There are some days when Rey doesn't talk. People around the base have learned that it's best to avoid her when she's in one of these moods. Even Finn only sticks around long enough to squeeze her shoulder, a quiet grounding. She knows it's odd, but she's stopped caring. "I'm just saying, she sliced my face open once and left a scar so gnarly I couldn't stop thinking about her." Rey's nose scrunches in amusement, and Ben reaches for her hand, staring up at his wife with utter adoration. "There's seriously something wrong with you two," the girl says, rolling her eyes at the pair. "But I suppose I should be thankful you freaks found each other." Her father grins at her and winks.

got kinda bored with the book i was reading before bed last night so i did something i don’t usually do and went on goodreads, and MAN. it was averaging 3.3, lots of fair and well-laid out reviews and criticism, even from the dnfs, but some of them are real brutal!! this one made me laugh though

Golden sunlight streams in through the window, and Rey is cozy, enveloped in the strong arms of the man she loves. This is her favorite kind of day. Serene, with nothing to break the stillness. Unless you're Ben Solo, who just can't help but open his mouth in the most inopportune times. "Hey, remember when I died?" Rey flinches and looks up at him, eyes narrowed. "Now why would you ever bring this up?" "I didn't mean to upset you," he says with a chuckle. He pats her head then, gently smoothing her hair. "It's just... it took me a very long time to figure out where I belong, and when I finally realized that it's with you, I couldn't stay." Her forehead wrinkles in worry. "Ben—“ “Thanks for coming to get me, is what I’m saying.” Tears prick at Rey’s eyes, but she refuses to cry. It’ll be a whole thing and she actually has long list of things to do. “I had to. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.” Ben grins. “Get rid of you? You’re stuck with me forever.” A flash of the long journey Rey took to find Ben after the events of Exegol plays out in her mind—the freezing fortresses and inky black void, the bone-deep exhaustion, the all-consuming loneliness—then she is pulled back by the warmth of his hazel eyes. Worth it. She kisses his jaw gently and burrows deeper in his embrace. “Good.”

No, she admits to herself bitterly. That hasn't been in the cards for a while now. Not like this. So she kneels beside him, pouring light into the wound she'd given him, willing the flesh and skin to stitch itself together. "I wanted to take your hand," she whispers, and she doesn't know if he's heard, but something flashes in her mind. A vision beyond time, beyond worlds, of Ben Solo holding out a hand to her with the softest of gazes in a lush garden filled with more flowers than she’d ever seen in her life. Her hand slips into his, warm and without hesitation. On the wreckage of the ship, she weeps silently, letting the thrashing waves and sea foam hide her salty tears. Maybe it’ll be easier next time. Red nails in his dark hair as she surrenders to her urges, mission thrown to the wind. Red marks he leaves on her thigh as he bites, red marks she rakes on his back. Under the red moon, sweating and spent, plans are formed in the dead of the night. Red is the blood of her former employer, glistening in the morning sun, splattered on the wall and the desk and the floor, covering hands of the Lord Solo and the sword of Rey, his lover.
