Tied into this, I think, is declining attention spans and literacy levels. Litfic is challenging. Add to this the fact education as a whole has been relentlessly pushing STEM as the be all and end all of education, language and literature skills in HS is falling in relevance especially for boys.

Literally teaching people to read the way struggling readers read. 💀 I’ve always found this weird about US teaching. Both my home country and my adoptive country have always stressed phonics, sight words and only after that, context clues.

Younger people want politicians who work to make society better, not people who spew hate and get so wrapped up in their own power struggles that they forget that government is for improving the lives of the many and the lives of the disadvantaged.

Imagine, as a brown person, not calling your parents’ friends your aunts and uncles. 💀 I’ve got some nieces and nephews and their mums are my friends, with no blood relation.
