They might still pull it off! The danger remains acute. But despite being qualitatively different from Trump1, the structural resistance is real, and their movement is eating itself over the failure to consolidate. Which is…extremely American, given past movement-based political projects.

The MAGA right is splintering over Trump's failure to complete the authoritarian moment. Turns out you can't do authoritarianism halfway. Every incomplete capture point (courts, states, military, elections) produces friction that fragments the coalition. Their own contradictions are bleeding them.

the message is clear that Republicans are in charge permanently, can kill any D legislation with the filibuster, never need to govern at all, and when pressed, they can threaten the lives of millions any time they want and they will be given whatever it is they demand in exchange for their mercy.

I can’t tell you how many texts and emails I have gotten from her campaign that use her son Ben and medical care for disabled people to fundraise. The Republicans aren’t the only ones that should be feeling shame.
