BEHIND THE LOGO DESIGNED BY JORDAN DABNEY IN THE PATCH DESIGN, JORDAN USED THE SAME FIG LEAF AND WATER DESIGN HERE, BUT THIS TIME IN THE SHAPE OF AN "S" FOR SAN JOSE. THIS IS INTERTWINED WITH THE SWORD SEEN IN THE BLACK AMERICAN HERITAGE FLAG. JORDAN'S USE OF THE HAMMERHEAD SHARK IS INTENTIONALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE GREAT WHITE TO REPRESENT THE DIFFERENCES THROUGHOUT THE BLACK DIASPORA. FOR THE CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY CREST, JORDAN TOOK A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM THE BLACK AMERICAN HERITAGE FLAG. SURROUNDING THE SHARK JORDAN DESIGNED A WREATH OF FIG LEAVES MIMICKING THAT OF THE FLAG. COINCIDENTALLY, THE FIG LEAVES LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO KELP. THE COLORS REPRESENTED IN THE CREST ARE PULLED FROM THE SHARKS BRANDING, THE BLACK AMERICAN HERITAGE FLAG, AND AN ADDITIONAL PURPLE HUE TO REPRESENT THE COLORS AND THE COMMUNITIES INTERTWINING. BEHIND THE SHARK IS A HEXAGON, PAYING HOMAGE TO THE TILES ON THE BLACK POWER STATUE AT SJSU OF TOMMIE SMITH AND JOHN CARLOS. WITHIN THE HEXAGON THERE IS A CONTINUOUS WATER PATTERN REPRESENTING THE RESILIENCE AND STRENGTH OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY. THERE IS ALSO AN OVERFLOW OF WATER SHOWN IN FRONT OF AND AROUND THE SHARK TO SHOW THE OVERFLOW OF BLACK HISTORY AND STORIES THAT SHOULD BE LEARNED NOT ONLY IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, BUT ALL YEAR LONG.
