She did die in a Spider-Man book but she wasn't really fridged for Spider-Man, it was more of an editorial mandate so they could bring her back as a mutant for MCU synergy. A lot of people are really mad about this but I don't care because besides Crystal I don't give a rat's ass about the Inhumans.

I drive for Uber Eats and before I did that I thought that getting fast food delivered directly to your door was kind of crazy and now I think that it actively rots your soul.

Whether that makes for good in-universe worldbuilding is something else.

Ive argued this at length before but I do think it's a better metaphor for bigotry if there ARE other people with supernatural powers and it's just 1 group that's irrationally hated. Bigotry isnt rational! If everybody loves The Thing but hates Rockslide for no reason, it makes a better metaphor!

Bobby being attracted to Moondragon is honestly gayer than being attracted to men for real.

And when I say the design is iconic I'm not saying it's good although it is a very good design in a vacuum I mean it is literally iconic, recognizable, known by a wide variety of people outside of the niche community that is comics fans.

So despite the fact that Betsy originated the name Psylocke Kwannon kept it even though that didn't make much sense because your average Joe thinks of Psylocke as an Asian superhero so reverting the name back to Betsy would look bad optically.

I'm not saying it was a good or bad thing I'm saying that to the average person thought of her as an iconic Asian superhero so it was difficult to fix that situation narratively and once they did they thought psylocke was an iconic Asian superhero

Im not saying it was because of ninja Betsy but despite everything else that is something that has a lot of cultural staying power she became the most prominent Asian superheroine at Marvel despite being a white woman trapped in an Asian body it was a thorny issue so they just ignored it for a while

I'm not disputing that OG Betsy wasn't a popular character in her own right. I'm sure she was, but Psylocke in Kwannon's body that's in the Jim Lee reboot that's still to this day the best-selling comic book of all time. That's the design that's in Marvel vs Capcom and Wolverine and the X-Men.

The Psylocke design became an iconic design and when it got translated into video games/cartoons they just made her a British Asian woman because trying to explain the bodyswap storyline makes anybody not immersed in the X-Men's brains melt out of their noses. She became iconic through those things.

I agree that there wasn't a good (or any) narrative justification for her picking up the name infection but once Psylocke became an iconic Asian superheroine having her go back to be some white woman would be bad optics. I'm glad somebody had the courage to finally try to fix that mess.
