The Washita County Courthouse in New Cordell, OK. Neat looking building and the east-west highway into town splits open to turn into one way streets on either side of it. It makes quite a statement coming into town.

Oooh. I may have found a baby cottonmouth near my apartment. Seemed more interested in staying camouflaged against the nice warm concrete than defending itself with its teeth so why not take a picture of it? #snake #herp

I found a bunch of Red Spider Lilies/Hurricane Lilies
growing near a sidewalk. A lot of stems looked cut and I found this bunch on the ground. Maybe a rodent was eating them until it started feeling ill. Like a lot of lilies, this one is toxic. #BloomScrolling

I have been smelling something in the air, like licorice, but thought that it was too late in the year for elderberry/sambuca to be blooming. Followed my nose right into the patch of blue mistflowers I found last year. Last year their scent lured me to them too. Very pleasant!

Blinded sphinx moth, its antennae are tucked beneath its wings. It is fascinating how various moths will rest their wings #insect #moth #invert

Maypop, or North American Passionfruit/flower/vine growing wild near my home. In the eight years I lived here, it has spread out quite a bit #BloomScrolling

A big, chonky Callosomia moth of some type, I think it is probably a Tulip Tree Silkmoth. Those wings are quite big. And check out those big plumose antennae!

I looked for blackberries maturing in the blackberry brambles but found none. I did find a green lynx spider though #spider #invert

I went back to see if I could catch the Swamp Rose Mallow blooming again but no luck. I did catch this distinguished looking grasshopper posing on one of the flower buds though. It is an Obscure Bird Grasshopper I think. #Invert #invertebrate #insect Schistocerca obscura

Bonus flower! There were also wild potato vine blooms here and there. I took a picture of some that hadn't rolled themselves shut yet #BloomScrolling

I went back to a spot that I saw the seed head of swamp rose mallows last year to see if I could catch it blooming and...
Well, they are blooming but the day was cloudy and rainy so the mature blooms were shut. But walking around in the rain was still pleasant. #BloomScrolling

A dried up water scorpion (or water mantis or water stick-insect) that I found on my car's windshield, far from any water. Wonder how it got there.
