Ph.D. candidate in Computational Media conducting critical research of ethical and creative inquiries of generative AI and art. I use the lens of an ecosystem to reframe dominant narratives and highlight interconnected concerns raised by artists.
These artist interns were not coming from a place of ignorance, but made real and meaningful attempts to engage with generative systems, and found important ethical concerns that made them strongly oppose it. Concerns like these must not be dismissed.

The first question I received was: "so... how do we make them get it? Like, these artists are coming from a place of ignorance, how do make them understand?"
I told them the artists are asking almost precisely the same question of programmers and the developers of GAI tools.
