I'd suggest looking at the fact that Sad Dad did become a phrase and luckily 90 of single player action games aren't sad dad games. JRPG as a genre leaned into the tropes and built themselves around them for over 20 years with almost no attempt to change anything because folks defend stagnation.

I like JRPGs, but the genre is generally stuck in a trope filled purgatory.
