So... We went from demanding Nintendo to add voice chat to the Switch and being angry at its exclusion, to saying we no longer want it?

It's been obvious from the outset that the reason they excluded it was due to system resource concerns. They added it because people wouldn't stop asking for it.

They titled it that way because it gets clicks. Suggesting that it was "shut down" gives a false impression that Nintendo filed a DMCA, which pisses people off and gets them talking. Nothing gets people clicking and talking like anger.

IP laws can really suck, but they exist for a reason.

Agreed. Don Mattrick was basically saying that people should stick to 360 if they don't like constantly being online and losing ownership of their games. That's a far different vibe from Nintendo saying they aren't dumping the Switch 1 support.

Oh no..... The Owl House, and Monster Hunter. It's Belos all over again.

"NiNtENdO nEeDs To MaNuFaCtUrE tHe SwItCh 2 In ThE uS!"

How much you wanna bet that's going to be their ridiculous justification to a topic they know nothing about?

There are countless studies that have been conducted over decades of research that have already proven that no, it is not the vaccines. There is no connection at all.

Autism is genetic. It is not something you can catch, you have to be born with it. Take that from someone who is autistic.

Really ask yourself, if Iggy's Reckin Balls came to the VC for $8, would you actually buy it over something like Earthbound? Be honest.

This is why NSO offers Nintendo an incentive to make these releases happen.
February 15, 2025 at 7:39 PM
With the VC model, we'd almost never see games like this, as it would sell maybe 100 copies. Whereas Earthbound will sell millions.

The big hitters shouldn't be all we get, they should release the obscure titles and ensure they're easily accessible. NSO makes that easy and profitable.
February 15, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Thing is there are undeniable benefits to the NSO model. Imo, the biggest being a higher incentive for obscure games to be released.

Nintendo no longer needs to worry if they sell, they make money regardless. Hence us seeing games like Iggy's Reckin Balls come to the service.

I have played my NSO games at friends and family houses just fine, with no connection to their wifi. And Nintendo advertises on their website that the games only require a 7 day check in, not a constant connection.

Granted you need to start the software to do the check in, so that might be why.
February 15, 2025 at 1:12 AM
You can play them without an internet connection. They just require a check in every 7 days. Sure, it's not ideal, but it's a far cry from having to stay connected constantly. And it's extremely rare that a typical user will be completely without internet for over a week.
February 15, 2025 at 1:03 AM
I doubt it'll ever happen. Like it or hate it, Switch Online is more profitable, and there's far more people using it.

Plus it does have benefits. We're seeing a lot more obscure titles release for NSO, likely because Nintendo no longer has to worry if it sells.

There wasn't really much that caught my attention at all tbh. Lies of P DLC was the only really exciting thing to me.

I want to be excited for Borderlands 4, but I'm cautious of the franchise after 3. So I'm going to wait and see with that one.

The same people have been defending the orange man for the past decade over similar things, so this unfortunately doesn't surprise me.

Oh no........
January 31, 2025 at 5:10 PM
If you tried to play FF7: Rebirth directly from a disc, you would have extremely excessive load times.

Imagine waiting 30-60 seconds for a single zone to load. I doubt anyone here wants to go back to that.
January 23, 2025 at 5:24 PM
In order for physical media to truly make a return, it has to be in a form that keeps up with modern data read speeds.

Nintendo has the right idea via Switch carts, but those are also expensive to manufacture compared to discs.
January 23, 2025 at 5:20 PM
As much as the convenience feels lost, the reading speed of discs is abhorrently slow compared to installing to an SSD. Disc speeds simply cannot keep up with the technical demand of modern games.

Sure, you can have discs to install from. But the disc is just a license authenticator at that point.
