My furthest riding day yet, 563 miles, beginning in Illinois, crossing Missouri, and ending in Abilene, Kansas, poised for a final push home tomorrow.
I've switched from blue highways to interstates. Not as fun, but I've chosen to spend Labor Day Weekend with Carol.

Woke up in Canada, rode through Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and landed in Rantoul, Illinois.
Agriculture back roads - fruit and wineries gave way to corn and soybeans.
1000 miles from home. Might get there by Friday night.

276 Miles along Lake Erie's northern shore - lake views and agriculture. apples & peaches, tobacco, wineries, ports and harbors. A nice pretty ride, back into Canada for the last time on this trip.

A longish day - about 325 miles. I started by saying goodbye to family, and ended near Niagara Falls, enjoying the back roads of North Central New York along Ontario's southern shore.
I celebrated with Buffalo Wings (they're significantly better in Buffalo) and Beef on a Weck

A special day. I woke up in the town I was born in, my first time back to it.
I ended it with family in the area where we were raised, and Mom still lives, near Schenectady.
The Merry's bought this house in Massachusetts from my parents in 1960, and it's still in the family.

Epic days of exploring Acadia National Park, the Kankamangus Highway, and endless twisty, hilly, scenic back roads in New Hampshire and Vermont, half with Keith, half after I headed south.

I've fallen behind on posts. So this is a foreshadowing - I'm still riding.
Meanwhile, Day 60 was huge.
It began in the home of fellow Perec scholar Renate, in St George NB, where she presented me a priceless gift of her art done in a drum in collaboration with Alan Syliboy.

A big miles day-about 370, from St John's NS to St George NB.
My last full day in Canada. Moving into a new mode, balancing making progress towards home with having experiences while I'm here.
Looking forward to getting home, and wishing it would never end. A good place to be.

Arrived in Halifax for scheduled bike maintenance. New tire, new brake pads, fresh oil, minor repairs.
This is a big place, made bigger by cruise ships, at least one diverted here by Erin.
I'm being a tourist, enjoying a comfortable hotel, and Uber.

Good bye, PEI
I took the 8 mile long Confederation Bridge off the island, landed in New Brunswick, and continued south, back into Nova Scotia.
Island Chocolate for breakfast before leaving, Tatamagouche Brewery for a break, and Harbour View Restaurant for scallops and chowder.

PEI is a full transition from remote, rugged, isolated travel to epicurean, touristic, beach and seafood life, which began in Nova Scotia.
The motorcycling is good - quiet back roads, curves and scenery. But it's also more civilized, food, drink, gas, etc doesn't need planning.

A ferry ride (YES!) brought me to Prince Edward Island (PEI) where my first stop was lunch at Point Prim Lighthouse and the reknown seafood restaurant for oysters and clams, washed down with a Bogside IPA.

A motorcyclists dream.
The "World Famous Cabot Trail", route 19, the twists, turns and views of coastal Nova Scotia.
Despite growing up 5 miles from Scotia NY, I'm just now learning it means New Scotland.
Motorcyclists, get thee there.

Back on the mainland. After the 16 hour ferry ride from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia, I found my way to a gorgeous campsite on the northern tip of the province.

The turn towards home.
Carol flew home this morning, and I boarded the overnight ferry to Nova Scotia this evening, nearly a month on Newfoundland.
Much still ahead, and also a chance to reflect on goals set and met, and goals to set and meet in the future.

Wildfire.
Dry weather, and rumors of arson, have the east coast of this peninsula burning, with many communities evacuated. An evacuee is having dinner at the next table over here at Jimmy's Place in Bay De Verde.
Fortunately we are staying in Whiteway on the west side.

Carol is here!
As she says, we had a 10 Fun Things day. We walked about 6 miles, ate and drank, heard great music, and partied with the locals.
I'm exhausted. 🤣
