After many specialist visits and scans, an MRI of the lower back revealed the culprit, a herniated disc that is all the way out of the spinal column and sitting on his sciatic nerve. Surgery is scheduled for 10/13. In the image, the green arrow is where the disc should be. The red arrow is the disc.
