Green-lead Lancaster City Council has twice been recognised as the top-performing District Council for Climate Action by the local climate network UK100. And in 2025 the Council won a national award for climate leadership.

👛 It was also our second best ever fundraising event. 🥳

🏠NIMBY's on housing? Not the Greens!

The fact is - local authorities where the Green Party holds a majority build a LOT more housing than any other, and EVEN in councils where we don’t hold the majority, the Greens have come out second only to the SNP!

Initiatives include:
- Surplus Produce swop/shares
- A repair cafe
- Eco cleaning products production

The cause is not yet known – it is being investigated by emergency services. It is known that several young people had been sighted on the roof and near the gantry of the chimney in the days leading up to this recent fire – and on the night of the fire itself, after the emergency services left.

A fire burned in a 'Supaskips' building in Lancaster from December 2023 to January 2024, after the company had illegally stored waste inside the building. On 18th August 2025, another fire was started. Lancashire Fire & Rescue attended with 3 fire engines and brought it under control in three hours.

We were asked: could we please ask the Council to tidy some paths grown with weeds? The Public Realm Department is very stretched, so Cllrs Andrew Otway & Hamish Mills spent 2 afternoons themselves - tidied all the path-edges & filled fifteen green garden-waste bags with weeds!

Cllr Sam Riches, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, says:
'Following an update, Lancaster's Climate Emergency UK Scorecard has been recalculated from 64% to 69%, putting us back into top spot. It is a great achievement to lead the field even once, but to defend our title is even better!

Climate Emergency UK assessed all UK councils on the actions they’ve taken towards net zero, and Lancaster City Council has been recognised as the best performing district council in the country for climate action, for the second year running!

Reform UK & Nigel Farage have repeatedly called for proportional representation. Their 2024 General Election manifesto included a pledge to hold a referendum on it. After the May local elections, Farage reaffirmed a commitment to introduce ‘an element of proportionality into UK elections.’ 🤨

2015-2023 the fossil fuel sector received about £80bn in government support - with 1/5 of it supporting new extraction & mining. 20bn less - about £60 bn - went to renewables. The Reform Leader of Lancashire County Council says he agrees with climate science, so he should commit to climate action.
