Not keen on winter in the UK - damp and miserable most of the time - but love proper winter. The colder the better. Been in -40 in the arctic. What you might call bracing, but wow, it was beautiful. Dancing water crystals in the air, a sun dog, multi coloured ice...

Here's one of my favourites. Great North Road, up near Broadway. It's the triple I particularly like - blocking pavement, bike lane and parked on double yellows. Maybe even a quadruple, given it was bin day. What a hero.

You should give North Shore on Holy Island a try next time. At low tide it's probably the biggest beach in Northumberland and virtually nobody knows it's there (given it away now though). Seriously, it's huge.

Here's one in Newcastle. Not superstition, not because it's shorter, but because the one on the right is a cycle path with the roughest surface in the city, so we (I'm one of them) created our own bike bypass.
