I write about football for a living (albeit a part time living). I also own an enormous number of vinyl records which I will undoubtedly bore you with. Sorry.
This one. Indeed it’s still there, even though I have others I haven’t played yet.

This one, over and over again. Rianne Downey’s debut- and it’s magnificent.

Rianne Downey’s new album, which I’ve finally unwrapped after weeks of listening to it on Spotify. If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s quite staggeringly gorgeous.

I’ve loved watching her with Paul Heaton, but this is rather different and something of a masterpiece. #vinyl #musicsky

We’re about to watch the Boomtown Rats celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first ever gig. I got an email earlier telling me that they were giving a mask to each member of the audience for a pre-gig photo, but mine seems to be missing. Still, I don’t think I really need it. #boomtownrats #london

I’m not normally keen on songs that go on for three weeks, but I’ll make an exception. When I first heard this, age 14, I think the phrase “when will this ever finish” was employed, but I have more patience now & rather enjoy it. Indeed, some of it is really beautiful.

I found this album in a market at the weekend. I then went to visit one of my favourite record shops, and the proprietor asked me what I’d bought- and it turned out that he’d never seen it before, either.

Perhaps my favourite album by The Beatles. Yes, if you leave out the unnecessary stuff it could be three sides instead of four, but I could just listen to I Will, Blackbird, Dear Prudence and Julia on a loop for the rest of my life and never get bored. #vinyl #beatles #music

Because I’m working and can’t be bothered to go upstairs and find another record, I decided to play a cd. And what an album this is- ABBA’s best, and one of the greatest, most joyous ever made. #ABBA #70s #music

I suspect this is my least played Fleetwood Mac album. Playing it again now for the first time in rather a long time and I’m not sure why I’ve neglected it. It’s not Rumours, but it’s rather fine nonetheless. #vinyl #music #fleetwoodmac #80s

Catching up with Very by the Pet Shop Boys- which came out in 1993, four days after the birth of my youngest boy. The cassette was a dear companion to me on the night bus to and from work, but I suspect this is the first time I’ve listened to the album in thirty one years. #vinyl #petshopboys

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the greatest day of my life. A day which took a chronically depressed 17 year old and made him believe he had a purpose, and could make the world a better place. Everything I’ve ever achieved in my life has its roots there. Thanks Bob.

We’re off to watch Paul Heaton in Halifax next week, so I thought I’d listen to some of his older work. Can you believe this is thirty five years old? Where did that go?

It is certainly more than A Little Time.

@vcorenmitchell.bsky.social is this what he gets up to when you’re at work?

I often find that bands I liked thirty or more years ago don’t live up to their history when they reform. This really isn’t one of those times.

Marvellous.

A fine day at Queens for the tennis. Andy Murray opened the arena now named after him. However:

Corporate tickets. If you aren’t interested in the bloody tennis, why come to the tournament? Talking during the points. Switching seats between games so you can ‘network.’ Feck off!

The first Queen album I ever bought, aged fourteen, in 1981. It cost me an entire weeks wages from my paper round, and it remains as wonderful now as it was then.

Apparently the highest ever recorded wind speed in the UK was at The Needles. I don’t suspect we quite reached such velocity yesterday, but I had a full head of hair when I arrived, and now…bald.

I’m not surprised it’s been reduced in price. It may not be the ugliest item of clothing I’ve ever seen, but it’s in the top one.

No matter how dedicated a Leeds fan you are- and I am- why the hell would you want to dress like a badly designed tube map drawn by a colour blind artist?

I’ve seen every version of Oliver in the West End for thirty five years, and I promise you the current one is the best. I saw this production in Chichester last year and was blown away- and it’s just as good, with the same cast.

The Smiths- So Much to Answer For. A live album of a gig recorded for FM Radio, never released on vinyl before, and sadly with the sound quality of a bootleg for much of its length.

Such a shame that Morrissey became a fascist.
