I’d actually feel very sad about it. I wouldn’t miss him one bit though.

Not really, just growing up in UK & travelling in EU, US & Canada as I got older.

The US cent is almost identical in size and colour to a current UK penny, a Euro cent & an old German pfennig (aka penny). But when the cent was first called a penny, an old UK penny was much larger. The old UK farthing (¼ of a penny) was almost exactly the same size as a cent.

Why do you call it a penny when it’s a cent ?

It would make team sports interesting. And the fields crowded. Also the stadiums.

The people’s flag is deepest red,
It’s shrouded oftentimes our martyr’d dead.

Nah - just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Plus Americans do their political flags the opposite way round.

Go figure. As they say in the US.

I think your text is fine tbh. You mentioned 2 minutes silence - this used to be the case but mostly 2 minute is used, in particular because 2 minutes doesn’t always hold. Especially at sporting events. We did a minute in my class at the school where I teach today. Impeccable. I was pleased.

It still is Armistice Day in the UK (Remembrance Day is the closest Sunday). A minutes silence is observed nationally at 11.00 AM

I’ve visited the American Military Cemetery in St Avold, France & also the American Military Cenetery in Cambridge, England. They are completely overwhelming. Trump is missing a major component of being human.

I’m sure they’ll give it a go if they think there’s money to be made.

Surprisingly, leeches are very occasionally still used. And wait until you find out about maggot therapy.

Tolkien has always bored me rigid. I didn’t even read it until the end when I had to sit an exam on it at the end of term.
