He/Him.
Discussing all things related to TV and film.
Love hot weather so Winter is my Kryptonite.
I went into "Trifole" (which opened nationwide this weekend) thinking it was going to be an uplifting story of a woman discovering herself in the Italian countryside.
Well, it got much darker than that, but I still liked it despite the whiplash-inducing turn the film took in the second half.

And president Doofus was self-absorbed, as usual.
I guess the person who collapsed wasn’t rich so Doofus didn’t care.

“The Mastermind”, director Kelly Reichardt’s new film, continues her exploration of drifters forced to live life on the road.
I enjoyed the film, especially main character James, who is reminiscent of Jerry Lundegaard from “Fargo”, another man who gets in over his head when dabbling in crime.

Jean Rollin's "Le Frisson Des Vampires" (AKA "The Shiver of the Vampires").

I really disliked "Shelby Oaks". As Roger Ebert would say, it was an insult to my eyes.
It rehashes ideas from "The Blair Witch Project" and "Hereditary" but doesn't do them anywhere near as well, and a few jump scares peppered randomly throughout the run time doesn't make a good horror film.

"You Won't Be Alone". It's a great folk horror film that changes to an incredibly touching and moving story at the end.

The #NoKings protest in Tampa, Florida yesterday was massive and it reinvigorated my spirit.

Jennifer Lopez is fantastic in "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (opening this weekend), as are co-stars Tonatiuh and Diego Luna.
The dance numbers are varied, from a Fred Astaire/Rita Hayworth-style flamenco dance with Jennifer and Diego to a massive Bob Fosse-style number and so much more.

I found the new film "Good Boy" intolerable. Even at 73 minutes it dragged and it mystifies me why the film's getting so many great reviews.
Yes, the dog in the film is cute and adorable, but you can only watch it perk up its ears, sniff and stare into the darkness so many times.

Didn’t John Byrne do the same story 40 years ago with Invisible Woman changing to Malice?

“House on Eden”, Kris Collins’ found footage film recently added on Shudder, unfortunately got skewered on Letterboxd.
I enjoyed the film though, especially the last 30 minutes, which feels like prime 70’s folk horror and ends marvelously.

The new comedy film “Doin’ It” is like an R-rated Hallmark film.
There are some “Superbad”-type explicit moments but aside from that, the film has an overall sweetness to it custom made for viewing at prime time on the Hallmark Channel (if you remove the d*ck shots, of course).

2017's "Mary Shelley" primarily focuses on the author's turbulent relationship with Percy Bryce Shelley and what inspired her to write "Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus".
Elle Fanning's magnificent in the role as she takes Mary from a wide-eyed girl to a world-weary woman.

“Party Girl”. It made me desperately want to move to New York, become a Librarian and eat tons of falafel.

I’ve always loved “Flashdance”.
I saw it in the theater in 1983 when I was 15-years-old and it took my breath away.
It’s all style and no substance, but it had one of the best soundtracks ever and Adrian Lyne made Pittsburgh look simultaneously grungy and majestic.

The new film “Rabbit Trap” starts off strong but the second half turns into a muddled mess.
Still, the sound design and cinematography are pristine.
There are moments where the main characters experiment with recording forest sounds and the pulsating audio sinks right into your bones.

I recently watched 2014's Lifetime version of "Flowers in the Attic" and even though it's pretty hated on Letterboxd, I enjoyed it.
It's like a sleazy version of an ABC Afterschool Special and Heather Graham hilariously overacts in it, mugging for the camera like she's in a silent film.

Is Chantal Akerman’s 1972 film “Hotel Monterey” one of the first found footage films?
I’ve always thought so.

1974’s “Ginger in the Morning” is one of Sissy Spacek’s earliest films.
She’s a hitchiking hippie picked up by a divorced man (Monte Markham) and they become comically intertwined with the man’s divorced friends.
It’s a sweet film, feeling like an episode of “Love, American Style”.

Taylor's 100 times richer and 1000 times more famous and beloved than Charlie "I'm 75% swollen bleeding gums" Kirk. He just can't stand that.
