This validates my fear of driving behind or next to a car-carrying semi truck on the freeway. You know one of those cars is just gonna fall off one day because some dude forgot to properly tighten some thingamajig.

Imo, filing any letters addressed to the court is weird unless you’re a pro se party and don’t know how to write motions or status reports. My district has no “letter practice.” Are letters to the court a common thing?

El Salvador has for the most part been flying under the radar with its gulags. Everybody knows, but it’s El Salvador, so we shrug. With the U.S. now implicated, it becomes a much bigger story and maybe too much scrutiny for Bukele’s “cool dictator” persona.

I had a pissing match with a DOJ trial lawyer last week who was too lazy to email a Word redline for one paragraph he wanted to change in a proposed order. I don’t think it’d be too hard to run them ragged.

I’m no expert on this issue, but I believe fed court criminal contempt can ultimately only be enforced by U.S. marshals. And rhe Executive branch controls them and can direct them not to comply. But, under FRCP 4, the court can appoint someone else to enforce civil contempt; ie, even a mall cop.🤔

I’ve made lawyers get a court order compelling our client files in response to a subpoena. The requesting parties argued that the subpoena was enough to satisfy the “law or court order” exception under R 1.6. Nope. The entire client file is confidential—not just the privileged stuff. Get an order.

Yup. The issue for SCOTUS was not whether the removals were lawful in the first place. But with SCOTUS agreeing that all were entitled to reasonable notice, the lower courts should quickly afford relief to parties who did not get reasonable notice.
And SCOTUS should’ve left the TRO intact.
