Although we missed high tide when it seems to float on the sea, the Torii Gate is still a magical sight. #Hiroshima #Japan

Watching the lantens, each with a message of peace in remembrance for all those who died 80 years ago. Very moving. #Hiroshima

By chance, my itinerary has brought me to Hiroshima the day before the 80th anniversary. It cannot be described as beautiful but certainly very moving.

The other little trick used by UK newspapers is to include parentheses around words that lack evidence to support the implied meaning. It was one of the first things I learned as a young journalist.
When the Sycamore Gap tree was cut down in 2023 it felt inevitable that the Daily Telegraph would publish this headline. You can publish anything if you add ‘locals say.’

Not posted for a short while. A steroid injection in my foot (Morton's Neuroma) left me very ouchy, not to say grouchy for a few days. That said, I managed to finish off my feedback on the latest Anansi Archive entries. www.anansiarchive.co.uk/competitions/

For any keen gardener, the emergence of the first plants of the year is an exciting time. This is a heritage variety called Long Red Thin. It was first recorded in 1493 by Christopher Columbus or one of his passengers. A man called de Cuneo described how people would eat the fruit like an apple.
