You help is deeply appreciated. And in this there are two lessons:
1. Don’t believe (I never do) the i button suggestion in the Apple photos app, use it as a guide only.
2. And identifying gulls is a proper nightmare and if attempted, you can’t have too many reference books.

I suspect the godwit was faster. Avocets appear graceful and short flights. I think godwits zoom along the coastline in long stretches. But I’m here ready to be corrected.

I can recommend reading Orwell’s 1984 back to back with Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’. Books by two contemporaries with different dystopian visions, but both with some points of accurate predictions for the world beyond the mid-20th C. It can be quite disturbing.

The daisies and the sorbus have been the most popular so far for the variety of critters. This one is posing me the greatest challenge. I’ve assumed it’s a halictus, but I haven’t yet found an example on Mr Falk’s Flickr pages with yellow pigment on the thorax. So many…..

The oxeye daisies are attracting a wide variety of bees, wasps and hoverflies in our garden this year too, but beetles are now getting in on the action.
