In my experience, it's mostly been younger pagans making the claim. While we do have a problem with racists, I get the impression they looked at a maximum of one website before making their judgment. #asatru #antifascist

People of Bluesky! Let's get to know each other better. What is your favourite movie from 1987? Because picking one favourite film of all time is a nightmare assignment.....

I'm not sure anything I say will alter your opinion, but I'll read your source, regardless.

Clearly my investigations into dark age history and Christian conversion have resulted in different conclusions than yours.

Variety is the spice of life, I guess. ;)

I'm getting the impression that, no matter what supporting evidence I provide, you're not gonna be happy. Let me ask you, what evidence could I provide you with that would divert you from your belief that the Christian church invented female empowerment?

In Scandinaviw, viking age wives, for example, had control of the house and finances, as well as being able to divorce their husbands at will.

"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" were a must-watch when I was a kid, so I need to try Huckleberry Beer! ;)

Vehemently anti-folkish. :)

I'll read it with that in mind. Though, historically, women gave had a lot of rights that didn't cross over into mainstream (Christian) modern society. That's where my interest lies - how did that change if the Catholic church were against it?
November 16, 2024 at 4:53 PM
Thanks for that. I'm interested to read it as the whole structure of the Catholic church (not allowing female priests, for example) suggests the contrary.
November 16, 2024 at 4:03 PM
That statement flies in the face of my personal experience. Do you have a source for the Catholic church and female consent thing?

There is a particular problem with Asatru in that it attracts fascists. But, thankfully, my experience is very different. I've identified as heathen (Asatru) for almost 20 years and have had far more positive experiences than negative. Heathen festivals I've attended have been very inclusive.

Following for "Asatru". Many of the others are just a bonus. ;)

For me, heathen is as much a social, cultural thing as well as being a spiritual path.

Thing is, when my family don't tag along, Salgofnir's Call is just me. I still try to attend every month, though. It feels important, I'm not sure why.

We're very inclusive and we don't get hung up on trying too hard to be "more heathen" than anyone else.

As a universalist heathen I think I could learn a lot from you. Following.
