dnf. could not bring myself to complete the final grind when i had finished basically every quest and just needed to level up 12 times to make it to the end. i get why this game earned its reputation. it's a shame, too, because the first half is perfect DQ

i love that this series was always obsessed with its own history. going back to Tantagel, heading to the Dragonlord's castle where his failson descendant lives who ends up helping you against Hargon, even in the second game they loved callbacks

then you go to a port where a whole sidequest happens on one screen: you save this girl from monsters, then walk to the right 15 steps and her grandfather gives you a ship. side quests were simpler back then

i do think it's fun that they added a bunch of specific dialects to the new games, but i kind of dig the Middle English vibe from the original localization too
