It was fun? 95% of time code looks this simple. Pictures are called by their file names (no ".jpg" required) and positioned automatically, animations are "show X-pause-show Y". Any questions I had were already answered on random forums or in the tutorial game. I already knew some coding basics, tho

I used Ren'Py! It's free and simple enough for me to learn on short notice despite my overall strained relationship with coding. It also has an in-built option to use speech bubbles instead of text boxes, so the result can look more comics-like.
(rooting for you to try a UT visual novel, too :D)

Edge wouldn't just find *any* words, he has standards! And there's no suspicious resemblance to the dating HUD going on, none at all, he's just thinking very normal thoughts

Gaster helped me hunt bugs! I've added his phrases in spots where the code was never supposed to go, so if he chimed in it meant that something broke. And well, the missing game pieces are technically voids, perfect for him to inhabit :D
