you obviously still need a translator's skill set for the results to be any good, and it's not much faster, but the pay is much less and you no longer have a copyright over the translation, so you won't get paid for reprints, library use etc.

Aside from energy use, I think the really big issue is that it's currently getting used by employers as a tool to slash wages. On the generative text side, I'm seeing a lot of translation jobs etc. getting reframed as AI editors -

Also, using one piece of statistic is close to meaningless: it doesn't say anything at all about where the food production is, who is benefiting from the food that is produced, how much goes to waste etc.

It's just not correct that the problem food production for too many people. The vast majority of planetary ressouces are used by industry feeding the overconsumption of rich countries, not food production.
