It starts with the regulation- it seems like Australia was lucky that no vested interests were paying attention and when rooftop solar was introduced, they decided to basically exempt it from the usual local government building permit process and then having a critical mass of installers

Excluding Chinese brands also drives up the prices. They keep the other players on their toes with rock bottom pricing.

I was staggered when I saw the red tape and costs of getting rooftop solar in the US.
In Australia, it’s been the opposite with a light touch regulatory regime (apart from electrical standards). I only had to sign about 2 forms that the installer gave me.

After seeing the rise of black market tobacco in Australia because of high taxes, are we looking at a massive market developing in the US from bootlegging non tariffed goods from Canada and Mexico?
Could this be a rerun of prohibition but on everything?

It’s Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin level of thinking and the worst thing is that he thinks he’s a genius.

One thing you guys didn’t mention was why all these senior US natsec officials were communicating via Signal and not the official channels.
There’s strong suspicion that they are doing it to avoid official record keeping and archiving requirements.

The long term effects from protectionism are even worse.
We can see examples from the recent past such as India’s licence raj that lead to things like the Hindustan Ambassador- basically a copy of a 1950s Morris being produced and the major car in India into the 90s due to protectionism

I’m keeping my eye on the bond market. US treasuries are ultimately about confidence in the US government and once that confidence is gone, it is gone for this administration.

I would suggest negative contrast - basically like CT/MR enterography. Preferably dual energy- the low mono energy recons really help.

The issue is that there is also pent up wage demands in the public sector from the previous Liberal government’s wage cap which meant that real public sector wages went nowhere for nearly a decade and then went backwards from the pandemic.
