Longer legs for sure helps walking around faster. Nothing gets past Kojima.

Might be unpopular opinion but felt the same way about Hades 1. Just felt like yapping for the sake of yapping with nothing interesting.

If you ever have any questions or even want to do like a learning live stream or anything, please feel free to dm me! I've been a part of the community for years and have done well at tournaments too back when I played modern and Edison so won't be complete noob advice (despite my name lol)

And since the cardpool and decks are from 15 years ago, everything is very cheap to build for irl play! Of course the original printings are usually very valuable, but if you want to just build something to play, it is the most accessible way to play!

The best part about playing retro formats too, you don't have to deal with power creep, banlists, or your cards losing value from reprints. The cardpool always stays the same, so you can use your favorite deck forever. And you don't need to waste $100 for a hard to pull card just for it to be banned

If you want to play something more reminiscent of Yugioh from growing up, then Edison is the way to go. Goat format is the other very popular retro format, which has unfortunately been solved and is quite stale. HAT and REDU are 2 other fun options.

WHY ARE PEOPLE PLAYING THIS YU-GI-OH! FORMAT OVER TEN YEARS AFTER IT HAPPENED?

Just to give more of a pitch for retro (specifically Edison format), it is the equivalent of Melee to Smash bros ultimate. It uses the cardpool and rules from 2010, having a much slower, experience compared to the current gameplay of modern. This short from MBT gives a little rundown of it.

Modern, yes. Retro, come and join the other old heads in setting some trap cards 😀. If you ever want to join a group of people to play in Philly, hmu!

The music is my only complaint. All the other dk games have masterpiece soundtracks and this was just fine.

Honestly no just because it's fun to tap them randomly while playing.

That’s fair. Though I feel like the people willing to travel just outside of Tokyo for cheap games are already in the know, and the people who just found out only will do it when convenient. Like I can’t imagine the casuals will travel outside of Tokyo JUST for book off, but maybe I’m coping.
July 7, 2025 at 12:13 AM
I think it will depend on the location. A lot of the book offs I went to last year in Tokyo were not crazy deals, but some just outside were very good deals.
