104 years ago, my grandfather, arrived from Italy. Grandpa never finished school; he had to work to support the family. In WWII, grandpa was drafted though an "enemy alien." He was naturalized during Basic Training. He served as a medic in an infantry division in Europe before returning home.

On this day in 2003 PV2 Rey D. Cuervo, 1/2 ACR, fell in Baghdad, Iraq at age 24. Rey was on a patrol when an improvised explosive device hit his vehicle killing him and wounding 5 other US and 8 Iraqi Soldiers. He rests in honor in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
