Being in exile and going through this process of becoming a new person in a new society from scratch - I am in a constant state of deprivation and I have to remind myself that I am still a person and my experience and knowledge are also valuable.

I painted it about self-control and human dignity - which I portray as gold, because I consider them to be the most valuable things that can be in people.
