Yes it would be easy to flag whether an item is subject to tariffs based on country of origin. CBP classification of a lot of these is not as simple as it should be tho. As someone who worked in AMZ, even on AMZ produced products it often takes research to know the impact of tariffs on a given item

Not to mention some of those importers may not raise price at all for tariff (it’s their discretion), raise only a portion, or raise MORE than the tariff.

Extremely difficult if not impossible to systematically calculate that across a portfolio of products (millions) that Amazon sells

Unfortunately it’s not that simple. That’s why the initial proposal for AMZ was only on their Temu-like subsidiary that was direct shipping individual orders from China

For 3rd party inventory that AMZ doesn’t import, it’s up to each individual manuf./importer and AMZ has limited visibility on cost

Not true if they implement tariffs and mass deportations

No asset class in the US is going to be steadily returning 50%/year return under this new regime

i don’t buy the new leftie theory of “intentionally crashing the market so billionaires can buy up everything on the cheap.” They were totally happy seeing their portfolios grow at 10% per year.

It’s the anarchists/techno-authoritarians like Thiel and Andreesen who DO want the system to crash

No, not really. This will hurt consumption as Americans have less money to spend, driving down revenue for companies. Most places aren’t at a loss for labor (yet) so it’s not like they needed retirees to come back into the workforce either.

They just proved last year that they’re not

You can make that same case about staying in the USA as a whole.

I’m exploring the options for my family

The old “family values” GOP was right on that at least. Some vices are worth just banning outright

I think this may be one area of Project 2025 they’ll soften on. It would be so massively unpopular

I’m so sorry. I couldn’t bear bringing my daughter knowing there was a good chance Harris would lose. And here we are

The veneer of impartiality is already gone. And who exactly will haul them into the street when Trump’s goons will shoot anyone who comes near them?
November 6, 2024 at 2:31 PM
I don’t know why you think that. They’ll just refuse to take up any cases that they might differ with him on

I really have liked my life up to this point and that’s all kind of been taken from me tonight. The future is terrifying and I don’t see how it can be better than the past.
