Not really. The average starting salary for a beat cop is about $40,000. Most make ends meet by taking private security jobs for overtime pay or padding their official OT hours.

Law enforcement officers should be well paid, well trained, and held responsible for their actions. Right now in the US, on average, none of those three apply.
