I see this more as a rebuke against putin by the Turks for attacking their LPG tanker last week in Ukraine.
Its not likely Ukraine attacked vessels so close to Türkiye without talking to Erdoğan first.

Erdoğan has to have been in the loop. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they even offered the co-ordinates to Ukraine without being asked.

It doesn't matter. The owners of these vessels will now realise there is increased risk. The cost of getting them to ship russian oil is going to get quite a bit more expensive. Assuming there are owners willing to risk losing their ship.

I would expect that even when the tanks are empty, there is still some unscavengable oil in them. The tanks were probably full of combustible vapours too. These ships don't strike me as the type to purge them with inert gas.

Turkey can't stop ships going through the straits, see the Montreux Convention. They have however stopped russia moving warships in to reinforce the Black Sea fleet, as per the convention.
But whether Turkey is right or wrong, it would simply make more diplomatic sense to sink them closer to russia

I think Turkey might take exception to burning ships breaking up near its coastline.
It might be more pragmatic to hit them closer to the russian side of the Black Sea.

I'm not sure Turkey is going to look upon burning tankers off their coast in a favourable light. Even if its got no cargo, its own fuel oil will cause environmental damage should the ship break up.

Here's another number. While Tesla's sales are down ~60% compared to October '23, BEV sales for all their competitors combined are up ~50%.
