"Social credit score" as most western news outlets report is... not accurate at all.

The rumor about it keeping you from travel comes from another part of Chinese law where if 1) you default on money you owe to the state and 2) the court decides that you have the means to pay it, the court can decide that you can't use certain public services until it's paid off (hs trains, etc)

This is pretty widely debunked and is a combination of a few different misinterpretations of Chinese law.

"Social credit score" is basically just a public version of the credit score we have over here and really only affects financial institutions (loans and credit cards and such)
