My interests include literature, art, Latin, Greek, Spanish, poetry, birds, and urban and landscape photography.
I had to think about this since I’m not much of a film person. Then I remembered being the only person in the theater at a showing of National Lampoon’s European Vacation and walking out after about 15 minutes. Memorable desolation.

How far we have strayed from our ancestors.

”Lucky lucky lucky me
I’m a lucky son-of-a-gun
I work eight hours, I sleep eight hours
I have eight hours for fun.
Hey!”

(An allegedly Romani song my parents used to have on vinyl)

Looking at myself, I tend to discount the objective value of whatever rather esoteric knowledge I’ve acquired. But when I look at others my opinion changes, and I can only sincerely praise any effort at all that they have made at self-cultivation. Our civilization relies on people knowing something.

Sons and Lovers. I know this is because of my failure as a reader. I’m sure Harold Bloom loved it because of something about Gnosticism. Just an ugly book. Mama’s boy mean to women. With you on Wuthering Heights. I almost always finish books, but put that one down.

I named my fists the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States because they’re going to reconstruct your ass.

This is not a cat that ever licks me. I can only assume she either smelled the toxin or did a full body scan of me with some sense unknown to science, detected a microscopic lesion, and then applied the healing power of cat saliva. Amazing creatures, #cats .

Crazy! I was listening to an intermezzo when this came up in my feed.

I wonder who actually wrote this. Doesn’t read like Trump. Caps mostly appropriate. Someone trying to channel his style, but not too hard.

She hits some pretty hard anapests in that first sentence. Shame it’s not a poem.

“Don’t worry, even if things end up
A bit too heavy
We’ll all float on“

Very moving and well said. If you haven’t already read it, you might enjoy Western Star by Stephen Vincent Benét. He also writes about the first encounters with the American peoples and landscape.

Good idea for an HGTV show: Ballroom Disasters

I’m not sure the moral arc of the universe bends towards justice. I hope it does, but sometimes I have my doubts. But maybe there is such a thing as too many lies.

I find myself nostalgic for a maybe imaginary pre-dystopian world where the seasons still revolved in accordance with the age-old laws and the sky was a purer blue and the morning chorus of birds fuller. I read of the construction of more “data centers“ and the world seems unrecognizable.
