Growing up on military bases is why my fantasy of a better world involves things like community centers, and tool libraries, and municipal kitchens, and dense housing, and walkable neighborhoods, and free mass transit -

Because none of that is abstract for me. It's just "how things were."

So it's really, really hard to avoid looking at Brennan and going, "Oh, it's me."

And to then also go, "He found the love of his life, managed to make the thing he loves doing into a career that fulfills him, and is surrounded by cool people who also love him."

I had a rough time in school, have struggled to be a creative while working in the service industry, got very attached to a particular college professor, think and care a lot about what it might mean to live a good life or be a good person, and the thing I want most in life is to be a dad.

I try to be a fan of people's works, rather than the people themselves. I try to avoid parasocial attachment, and just go "hey, here's this cool thing this person did, I hope they make more cool things like it in the future."

But I'm also a too-sensetive white guy in his 30s who plays D&D.

There's also something really heartwarming about a guy who spends his time in fantastic worlds... whose menu is a bunch of very grounded stuff.

"I'm an Irish guy from New York, married to a Jewish Angelino, all of my favorite foods are exactly what you'd expect them to be."

Which we knew.

Which is why a promise to vote on the ACA extension is meaningless.
