Not sure it's point intended in thread, but reaching sufficient domestic production to be net exporter was arguably a necessary predicate (on the political side) to lift the crude export ban in 2015, which more tightly tied domestic to international market

Oversimplified it. The ban is on algorithms/services/software that perform a "coordinating function" (collect rent data from 2+ prop owners, analyze, and recommend terms)
