Never mind, Co-Pilot solved it for me, by typing in the same text as my original post above. The game was called Facade from 2005, developed by Michael Mateas and Andrew Stern.

Great write up, would love to find the time to investigate this stuff myself, but until then I'll just enjoy reading what others have achieved.

Look forward to watching - have a fascination with dithering coming from the 8 bit era of Spectrum 16/48k games. Some of my favorite were created with dithered graphics due to colour-clashing and produced striking visuals. Wondered if those hand-crafted graphics could be replicated with shaders.
