I was about to complain that they're just ruining their draft position, but THE RAMS have the Falcons' First Round. So they're ruining the Rams' pick and their playoffs.

I've seen too many people do the anti-colonialist "the aztecs take over europe instead!" thing that feels like it misses the whole point. Not that everyone plays it for some praxis reason, but it just has bad vibes, IMO.

I do generally like the game genre, but both the "I'm going to take over the world as X" and the "I'm going to make a communist utopia" feel too informed by game engine decisions that often reinforce only vaguely realistic concepts of how the world works/would have worked.

Not making a statement on the article here, but I was talking to a friend about how I didn't feel any urge to play EU5 because I disliked the revisionist history of it. Just feels weirder than Civ does because it's trying to be more real. Either allows for being bad, or makes it too easy to be good.

I wonder if it has to do with a lot of paper products stuff pivoting to making masks for a bit there? I know it really made coffee filters scarce for a while, so it may have disrupted supply and folks never went back?

There's an amazing @prozdishere.bsky.social video of him reading all the names in baseball announcer form.

I love this recipe so much, and the base is versatile for a lot of diverse and interesting options! I've made margarita eggonog, mint mocha eggnog, painkiller eggnog...

IMO, they're only really kingmakers if they're picking among progressive candidates. By the time you end up with Harrell vs. Wilson, I'd assume any progressive outlet would endorse the same candidate, so they'd all be reflective of the relative power of the progressive voters.

Were there WFP or other progressive candidates in the school board elections that the Stranger's endorsement crowded out? I'm mostly curious about causality here. As best I can tell, WFP endorsed the same candidates this election as the Stranger, so it's not clear which is more powerful.
November 14, 2025 at 9:10 PM
Earnest question - do we think the Stranger's endorsements are powerful? Or are their endorsements just more in line with where the grassroots progressive power is? Are they kingmakers? Or just correctly relaying what their audience may have chosen anyway without them?

Seriously. Imagine rooting for a good team against a legendarily unfortunate team and then also being a cowardly asshole about it.
October 21, 2025 at 3:28 AM
Yea, the team's generally fine (Springer's Astros history aside). IMO a stadium of people cheering to deny a team their first World Series ever with "lol seattle" shirts is pretty classless.

Jason Snell's talked about them before on various podcasts. I think he likes them fairly well. sixcolors.com/post/2024/01...

Left to right: Boox Page, TCL NXTPAPER 11, Kobo Libra 2. I’ve been writing about e-readers–Kindles, Kobos, and the like–since the first month of this site’s existence. I wri…

It also makes it way easier and more casual for folks in the apartments north of Market to walk down to the PCC, H Mart or Trader Joe's!

14th Ave in Ballard would be perfect. It's not really a major car or bus route except to the stuff on it. Plant some trees up the middle, make it walking, let Reubens and co spread out even further.

Yea. Either way, I'd wait until after the release. Last year's will get cheaper, and if you see something on the new release that seems worth, you can evaluate that more clearly. Also, Apple's got good return policies, so you can get the new one, try it, and return it if you prefer.
September 4, 2025 at 1:43 AM
In general, I'd be a little worried that next year may be the "we're doing some edgy stuff" year with design and new cell modems and such, so if you're just looking for normal stability, this might be a good time.
September 4, 2025 at 12:34 AM
Yea, kinda my read, but I also trust Apple somewhat on hardware that they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't think it was good. They're already super behind the trend for it, so they can wait until it's good enough for them.
September 4, 2025 at 12:32 AM
This seems like a decently stable year, OS redesign aside? Next year is maybe folding phone and some sort of big anniversary redesign. So maybe a good year for just "I want a normal phone" if you don't care about folding stuff.

Not to say it's a good/reasonable idea, but I have to imagine that's the original pitch - pay more, but it's less of an initial hurdle than PreCheck
September 2, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Isn't the pitch that it's not as annoying to get as PreCheck, but is still much better than not having anything? I've always assumed it was meant to be a stepping stone thing to PreCheck.

Sure, but "time spent in dev process" doesn't guarantee that the results are any good. Look at something like Path of Exile 2 that was years in dev cycle and was kinda a messy pile of half of a game when it launched. It's easy for internal dev to not see problems when it goes too long.
August 22, 2025 at 5:33 AM
I mean, let's maybe wait and see if it's good before confidently declaring that anyone with worries is a "gamer". I'll be happy if it comes out and is loved, but there's also been plenty of games, especially sequels, with long dev cycles that ended up being a complete mess with no direction.
