POPE LEO IS HOLDING THE BOOK!!! (my name is in it). Oz friend (Hilary Reagan) published this. He got Oz Fr Tony Banks OSA (from Rome) to endorse (friend of Pope "Bob"). I endorse it for your reading. A tad French in oeuvre, but a good read. www.garrattpublishing.com.au/pope-leo-xiv/

If there's 1 thing to detest Trump for, though there are many, it's Hegseth renaming the US Harvey Milk oiler ship. Hugely significant in the Trump administration's attempts to roll back DEI considerations. Milk is a Korean veteran, besides being an LGBTQI hero. My anger is hard to contain.

6.30 pm on ABC Tv 1 tonight (20 minutes away) "The Conclave". Friends, colleagues and family - would you please spend half an hour watching the ABC tonight? It's a programme I am quite proud of.

Me seconds after proto-deacon Mamberti announced "Robertem Prevost". I'd predicted him a likely. Still surprised. Thanks be to God our choir at Paddo sings in Latin regularly. I'd been desperately worried we might not understand the Latin name. @lintonbesser.bsky.social

So I went shopping in Rome today, and while they are not quite St Peter's Basilica, Roman Supermarkets a dream come true too

OMG Geraldine interviewing Archbishop Paul Gallagher in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. He's the Vatican's Foreign Minister- and he was FASCINATING. Used to be the papal nuncio to Australia (and he is well loved in OZ YAY!!!).

Sorry to be a nerd, but at lunch today in Rome I meet so many Vaticanistas and luminary religion journalists that I am still beside myself. Susan Pascoe, Tom Reese SJ, James Martin SJ, Maeve Heaney, Austen Ivereigh, Sam Sawyer SJ, J.D. Long Garcia, Colleen Dulle. OMG. Still trying to exhale.

One of the things I really noticed today was the inbuilt diversity of the Catholic church, especially when the Melkite Patriarch of Antioch incensed the Holy Father's coffin as Eastern rite chants were sung.

Been at the Pope's funeral in the Vatican city today- as a reporter. And it was staggering to be in that huge crowd.
