For all the ills and problems of the world. That is why you handle politics with caution. because it can work for, or against you. And that's the end of my explainer. Hope this clears my POV up. curse you character limits for making this trickier than need be.

And then you slowly pull them ever further into your ideals and ideaology. Of course, sometimes they snap out of it agree that politics is the reason whatever sucked and that's the end of it. Sometimes they don't and a new voice joins the MAGA or whatever current rightwing chorus blaming the left(+)

"Y show went off the rails" or "Z comics has taken a nose dive", and then you give them a language that gives voice as to WHY it sucked. A language that blames "woke" ideals and ideaology. You even have evidence that gets heads nodding with story being sacrificed for perceived political points. (+)

as they aren't blind either. They see problems in the country too. They have a different, and often disastrous, idea on how to handle it. And how do you convince people to go along with disastrous ideas? Why, you meet them where their at first, with the acknowledgement that "X game sucked", (+)

Now the other part, hopefully able to fit in one response this time: Politically speaking, agreed that right-wingers are morons and the US is going to be experiencing bad times thanks to that. As for how they are in the rest of life, as someone who lives in a red state, that gets more complicated(+)

And that's just one of the cast in one game. A character can be so much more than JUST their sexuality or gender. To reduce the defining piece to just that, is where you stop handling with care and start bludgeoning over the head. So use politics with care. It can help a story, or deeply hurt it.

goddesses, her ties to to Nocturne, a fear of wolves from a messed up memory, changing her hair as a sign of either going back to Selune or Shar, even something as simple as having a favorite flower written in that you can find and get as a gift. All of that weaved together for a rich character.(+)

I mean if I didn't list it, look at BG3 and Shadowheart, a line from her and the fact you can romance her as guy, gal or somewhere inbetween shows at least she is Pan. but there is SO much more to her than who she's attracted to. Her family history, her role in the latest spats with the sister(cont)

that they are whatever the chosen by the writer to be sexuality or gender is, then that is a failure of politics in gaming. If they have more to them that makes them a more well rounded and fleshed out character with that non-binary or LGBT characteristic? congrats, you've done politics well. (cont)
January 25, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Splitting my response for your two points, for whatever getting into an internet argument on a platform that has a character limit is worth: Let's go with your LGBT and non-binary concerns as an example. You want them to be one or both? Go right ahead. But if their only defifining feature is (cont.)

Guess what? Meant what I said. Use politics with care, or you get people biting back. Those games did, 'least from my own perspective. Politics in games CAN be done well, as long as you handle it with care. If not handled with care...well the rightwing's audience didn't come out of thin air.
January 25, 2025 at 5:59 PM
As someone who's said that, I think the overall sentiment is less "Keep ALL politics out of games!" and more "Stop whacking us over the head with politics like its your sledgehammer!" Politics is a delicate matter and should be handled with care. If said in relative good faith, of course.

Could they have? Sure. But I'll take someone doesn't take many questions from but passes stuff like the Inflation reduction act and the CHIPs act, under whose administration we successfully cornered COVID-19 and made non-competes go down than someone on the news rambling about Hannibal Lecter.
