P.S. one version of the 7-125 is already in service as the Chiayi-class of Taiwans CGA.

In fact, the vessel is big on containerization, not only featuring Cube integration in the mission bay but also space for further Cube modules midship, along with a dedicated 20t crane.

It absolutely gives off Vigilance vibes with all the containers, I'll say that much.
November 18, 2024 at 2:39 AM
Vard also offers other potential options to be integrated as well, including the potential for both 25/30mm gun

Beyond that, the 7-125 features a flight deck rated for up to 13.3 tons, a dedicated hanger/workshop, and a modular mission bay with SH Cube integration.
November 18, 2024 at 2:39 AM
Already a fairly large vessel, the 7-125 is also substantially armed. The advertised armament, according to Vard, includes:

• OTO 76/62
• 16 Mk.41 cells
• 2×4 NSM
• 2x RIM-116 SeaRAM
• 2z 12.7mm SRCG

So excuse me for being a bit sus on the OPV classifications.

It's hard to know where to start with this one because, believe me, there's a lot, so let's get the most simple numbers out of the way first.

The 7-125 weights ~4500 tons, with a core crew of 125-150. She has a range of 8500km with a top speed of 23kn

Late night! Today's Canadian design is another Vard, the largest in their selection of combat vessels, the Vard 7-125, more specifically the NGOPV variant.

Coming in at... 125m in length, this is perhaps one of the most decked out 'OPV' you can find on the market.

I have no idea the ice class, mind you, but Im guessing PC5/4. That is a safe guess. The G-LAM features a large flight deck able to accommodate at least five helicopters, along with dedicated maintenance facilities.

It is likely to accommodate at least 300 additional personnel.
November 14, 2024 at 2:16 PM
If you're looking for proper numbers on the G-LAM, you're gonna be waiting. I've tried, as far as contacting, and have yet to get hard confirmation on things.

We do know a few features. The G-LAM features an icebreakers hull, RAS capabilities, and a NATO Level II hospital.

Slowly working through various designs, today we have the G-LAM proposal by Davies. This is one of Davies few Indigenous designs, along with the MRMSV, GMAS and GPFe.

Info on the G-LAM is surprisingly quite scare, with a length of 180/190m and a tonnage of ~20,000, give or take.

Senators have officially arrived in Haiti
November 13, 2024 at 2:30 PM
While there are few of them, Canada does have several Indigenous warship designs running around.

The Atlas 85 by Serco is definitely one of the more unique ones out there. Based on the Sa'ar 5 design, this little guy comes in at just 1300 tons, 46-man crew, and ~85m in length.

The Crossover series can house between 130 and 200 additional personnel depending on the variant, as space is sacrificed on the Fast Combatant for additional combat systems.

All variants also feature a dedicated hanger able to accommodate two medium-sized helicopters.
November 12, 2024 at 3:01 PM
The most noticeable part of the Crossover is the X-deck, the vessels primary Mission Bay located underneath the flight deck, providing 530m² of mission space.

In total, the Crossover across all variants offers around 1300m² of mission and storage space.
November 12, 2024 at 3:01 PM
The Crossover attempts to provide a modular family able to adapt to a variety of different needs ranging from Frigate-sized combatants to small Amphibious Assault Vessels.

The Crossover has Ro/Ro capabilities, a rear slipway for landing craft, and an optional RAS capability.
November 12, 2024 at 3:00 PM
Today's unique vessel is the Crossover series from Damen.

For those of you familiar with the Absalon-class, the Crossover series will be eerily similar. Ranging from 4500-5500 tons and 115 and 140m, the Crossover family blurs the line between a combat and support vessel.
November 12, 2024 at 3:00 PM
Coming in at only 6000 tons and 120 meters, the MPV-120 from Fassmer is probably one of the smallest MRSS that you can find, but oh boy, do those Germans try to pack her full, complete with Ro/Ro capabilities, Well Deck and support for RAS.

Definition of no wasted space.

I'm just waiting for BMT to drop Vidar for CPSP. It's around the time it pops back up into existence for a few months.

The Royal Canadian Navy has been undergoing its largest modernization in decades, but with only two supply ships planned, do we have the capability to support such a fleet?

My latest piece, Canada and the Support Ship, is now available on substack!

I don't talk about VANS enough, so let us take the time to appreciate Iveco and the MUV.

In today's episode of 'Why did Davies propose this?' we have the Canadian-Australian Strategic Firefighting Initiative vessel, which was designed to ferry a joint fleet of CL-415/515 between Canada and Australia.

The vessel was never built.

The AN-74 is a modification of the AN-72 airplane. It is intended for operations in the Central Arctic Basin and in the Antarctic on temporary, natural, and limited runways, with minimal or no technical support infrastructure.
