My last company had this happen fairly often as well. We loved joking about which person in the company should get the Amazon gift cards they were requesting.

Definitely number 2. The character is somewhat boxy so the boxy broom design in 1 doesn't contrast the scene as nicely as 2 does.

The Steam version just went free-to-play this year. It has paid DLC for each expansion that can get pricey. The free install gets you the base set with online play (though limited to 4 players instead of 6 with DLC) and offline vs AI.

Mobile version is the same story. Both versions have a tutorial.
