The Taxation and Revenue Department safeguards abandoned property turned over to the state after a period of inactivity. Currently, $390 million sits with the department and is available to reclaim. Individuals claims average $500, but vary considerably.

Tax expenditures are credits, deductions, and exemptions, which result in revenue that the state forgoes, that benefit New Mexicans – essentially investments in families, health care, and economic development delivered through the tax code rather than direct spending. Taxation & Revenue New Mexico logo November 5, 2025 Press Release Albuquerque resident charged with 12 felony counts for tax evasion The Taxation and Revenue Department today announces that Albuquerque resident Dennis Pyle has been charged with 12 counts of felony tax evasion. Pyle, 52, was indicted by a State grand jury on Oct. 17 for tax fraud relating to his business, Earthtech Landscaping. This follows a two-year investigation by Tax & Rev’s Tax Fraud Investigations Division (TFID). Pyle has been charged with one 2nd degree felony count, eight 3rd degree felony counts, and three 4th degree felony counts of tax evasion. He could face up to 37-and-a-half years imprisonment and $90,000 in fines as a result.
