I read this story with my late mother's voice in my head saying "okay, so first of all, if you had the sense that God gave geese you wouldn't be going to take a shower right before you left the house, now, would you? Just asking for pneumonia to go outside with a wet head in the winter..."

A wonderful memory from just before the pandemic: the day I and thousands of other Bay Area commuters met a pony on public transit www.kqed.org/news/1178550...

I abandoned my medical career after discovering that premed chemistry required me to light a Bunsen burner with matches. And having lit the Bunsen burners, to make pipettes by melting glass tubing and tying off the ends, which I thought was stupid because surely we could buy them premade.

A friend and I went to see that very film and realized as we reached the box office that neither of us knew what the actual title was. She asked the ticket seller for "the new movie with Leo DiCaprio" but the ticket seller didn't know. I had to go back to the sidewalk and check the marquee.

I was curious about the "eggs, convent fashion" in the Dundee Courier menu and found this recipe for sliced hard-boiled eggs and onions in a white sauce over toast. Is it "convent fashion" because cheap, or as a compensation for other carnal pleasures?
Eggs, Convent Fashion from A Shilling Cookery for the People by Alexis Soyer
