My strange observation on that 2018-2022 era:
It’s like a soundtrack to a sunny vacation destination devoid of any people; weirdly cheery but also has this unsettling liminal quality to it.

Yea! My first experience with his stuff was the moodier dubby sound of ship-scope/Butterfly. The 2018-2022 “sunshiny” era was initially jarring but now I’m hooked.

Picked up a copy of Butterfly Effect this summer and now I’m fully Atobe-pilled.
His music is so simple on the surface but seriously rewards repeat listens. Having a hard time picking a favorite album.

Feel like this definitely fits the vibe.

I really dug their 2017 album but never clicked with this one. Maybe I gotta give it a few more rinses.

There’s something incredibly Zen about these releases. The lyrics are like Cold Mountain poems if Cold Mountain moseyed around his garden in his slippers with a half warmed cup of coffee.

Yes! Loved it

One of my holy grail records. Been waiting for a reissue for years…

I’m constantly on the lookout for albums that scratch the Jeremiah Chiu/Maria Honer itch.
Incredibly visceral, transportive stuff.

“International” is my clumsy way of categorizing “world” music. Within international, I have categorizations for reggae, Brazilian MPB, compilations with a strong geographic specificity (Indonesian psych from the 60s)…
Still feels awkward and reductive/problematic to categorize International tho..

I’ve got them categorized by genres as you’d find them at a record store. Easier for me to pick a record if I know I’m feeling folk and then pick an album alphabetically from there. Tricky thing is in genres like “electronic” where it feels weird to have Aphex Twin next to Silver Apples.

That Moonshake is one I've been meaning to grab! Discovering the Too Pure back-catalog a few years ago definitely re-wired how many brain thought of 90s post-rock.

Pretty much. Coked up shitheads whose confidence or lack-thereof depends on "vibes".

This is fantastic. Kinda taps into that loose 90s version of post rock where anything goes.

Definitely a formative band and formative album for me, but looking back on those years they served more as a gateway to other more experimental bands, than as a band I regularly reach to put on.

This is top notch 👌. Always coming through with those boundary pushing 90s groups.
