"The appalling behaviour I witnessed from the Leader of North Lanarkshire Council at the meeting of the Full Council on 19th December, in my opinion, is not befitting of the trust placed in him.

Despite the Opposition SNP Group presenting an alternative option avoiding any closures or cessation of service by way of an amendment, the Labour group actively chose to ignore this and deflect.

Just over a year later, on Thursday the 19th December 2024, the Labour Administration presented an 'Active and Creative Communities Review – Updated Position' paper to the Full Council.

Residents of North Lanarkshire were part of a successful campaign last year to stop the North Lanarkshire Council Labour Administration from closing 39 much loved leisure facilities and the mobile library service.

NLC Labour Leader Cllr Jim Logue went back on his promise to keep & maintain 39 community facilities in the local authority by approving closures. In addition to this, Cllr Logue's administration approved the cessation of the council's mobile library service.

The work of the member/officer working group will continue and any substantial changes recommended to the Education and Families Committee in February will be used to assess all future school transport applications. (7/7)

Questions will have to be asked about why Councillor Logue has only now bowed to mounting strains from within his own group after remaining so adamant that changing the distances for transport eligibility was the correct decision. (3/7)

This Labour administration could have supported the many fully costed options presented by the SNP group at Committee and Full Council over the last few years, but they chose not to and in turn caused parents and guardians great anguish. (2/7)
