With the season of gratitude upon us, we’d like to thank all of you for your continued support in 2025. During a year that has seen a lot of tough change at NJ Spotlight News, it’s impossible to adequately express how much it means to us.

Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill officially resigned from the House of Representatives at midnight Thursday and Gov. Phil Murphy wasted no time ordering a special election to fill her seat.
The winner will serve out the rest of Sherrill’s term, into January 2027.

Early Tuesday, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, his team and local advocates gathered at Delaney Hall immigration detention center to demand answers after fire and code enforcement officials were blocked from entering the facility.
