Just got this hardcover book from the library yesterday. Been waiting for it.

I am loving it! Highly recommend.

If you don’t know who she is, she was on BBC’s “Call the Midwife” and her own sitcom “Miranda.” This book is about being unwell for 10 years in her forties, and what she learned.

Perfect timing. I walked onto the back deck and a Monarch butterfly was right in front of me on a new Joe Pye weed plant.

I think these are out. Close enough, anyway. Purple clematis with a kind of beard.

All I can think of is Anna singing, “Do You Want to Build a Snowman.” I watched that movie so many time with some of our little ones.

I don’t have a Canadian flag, but I bought these guys when I was promoting Canadian authors at in-person events some years ago. Two of them have little flags. Plus they’re adorable.

Not exactly inspired me, but definitely the person who showed me things I needed to understand. The author of Black Like Me. John Howard Griffin. I grew up in a small town in the Canadian prairies and never met a Black person until I went to university. I only saw them on TV, movies, and the news.

A few years ago I read a book by American author and journalist Mary Holt Reinhart, who not only wrote great mystery novels but was an American war correspondent on the front lines during World War I. 1/3

One of the books I’m currently reading. I got the ebook from our library via Libby.

Wow! How did I not know this writer’s name???

I agree with Toni Morrison. His books should be required reading!

I have a mystery series under my actual birth name (long story there). It’s set in Toronto and is written in the style of Golden Age writers like Christie, Sayers, Heyer, etc.

For my birthday today, the first book is on sale for 99 cents! Links at jamenzies.com/books/shaded...

I put together my Christmas present. No, I never had Lego as a child or as an adult even though our kids and grandkids were totally into it. But 5 or so years ago, I got some because I thought it might help the neuropathy in my fingers, and here we are.

If you like “locked room” style mysteries reminiscent of the Golden Age of Christie, Sayers, Heyer, and Marsh, but updated, the first book in my mystery series is on sale this week.

What it’s like outside our house today. The roses are dried but hanging on.

And a close-up of the geranium that bloomed outside from early spring to late fall, and is still blooming inside our house.

If you don’t have a copy of this book yet, or if you know someone who might like to find it in their stocking, it’s available through most stores as an ebook or paperback. You might even suggest that your local library purchase a copy.
