There would be pros and cons for both.

But I cannot see Puerto Rico becoming a state now that Trump has made English the official language.

Puerto Rican Spanish is too big a piece of the culture to force it to be limited

Not all of the sudden.

They don't teach you in schools but the Truman admin bombed 2 cities in PR that were rising for independence.

Created laws to ban talking about independence.
Made it illegal to fly the PR flag in PR
Arrested and murdered independence leadership with radiation poisoning.

Cool, let me know when you have 60 votes in the Senate
August 13, 2025 at 3:56 PM
It is changing, but I'm pretty sure the only independence the US has offered PR was sovereignty with free association that would allow the US final say on matters that would be "National Security" issues.

Basically just statehood.

What you don't realize is that there has never been a real legal referendum vote with the actual options. The last congress attempted to pass a bill to oversee one but it was shelved in the Senate.

Only the US Congress has the authority to change the status of PR

Pro-independent folks aren't denying people a vote. PR has been denied proper representation since her annexation. Given citizenship only to be added to the WW1 draft. Given commonwealth status because Truman bombed PR and his reelection was in doubt. But always denied a vote by Congress

I think he is going to have a lot of interest in the off season.

My man Tanner had the best Eagles Preseason QB game since Sam Bradford made his Eagles debut in 2015.

Cam Newton averaged over 14 INTs per season.

123 interceptions in 148 games played.

The guy that had only 2 winning seasons and a sub 60% completion percentage.
July 25, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Milton Williams and Josh Sweat are both very good players, but they had great seasons last year because of Jalen Carter forcing offenses game plan for him and swallowing up doubles all season long.

I think Eagles will be just fine on the edge and secondary

Guánica is where US forces first landed on PR in the Spanish American War.

The difference between POTUS, who is an idiot, and Powell, who is brilliant, is clear to see here when it took him all of 5 seconds to look at Trump's new fake figures, spot the inaccuracy, and educate him on when the building was completed.

It wasn't until after receiving backlash in the mainland for the fascist bombing of US citizens did they grant PR the ability to "civilize" and file as a commonwealth while still exploiting PR resources to expand the US wealth and racial hierarchy.
June 12, 2025 at 2:52 PM
Trump as POTUS hasn't come close to other levels of fascism of presidents' past. In 1948 the Fascist Truman admin forced PR to pass Ley de la Mordaza making it illegal to fly the PR Flag, sing songs about PR or even talk about independence and even bombed several PR cities in 1950.

It is the US calling all the shots.
The island belongs to the US.
The US Congress has final say on PR laws, PR funding, PR trade, including any status referendum to make PR a State, Independent, or keep status quo. A bill to even hold referendum vote didn't pass in the last congress
