I'm very thankful I can commute most places semi-safely in MPLS by bike. It's definitely the quickest and most flexible way to get around the city with how horrible traffic can be. I can just bike past traffic & it feels great every time. I'm definitely happier being a bike commuter here than in IC.

When I travel back to IC, seeing how most of the bike infrastructure is sharrows with the occasional unprotected bike lane (which cars no matter what city you're in weave in & out of & illegally park in), & shared paths serving mostly a recreational purpose, depresses me comparing it to MPLS.

What gives me hope, however, is that unlike living in IC there is constant community input on upgrading bike infrastructure. Browsing Google Maps, I've seen poor bike infrastructure upgraded within a year (aside from planning time). It's nice to see a city that's making an effort on cycling.

I've had to go from a fully protected path most of a route (aside from crossing streets), get on a street with an unprotected bike lane, then have to cycle on a sidewalk for a block & a half bc the street has no bike infrastructure & cars are driving too fast to stay safe sharing the road.
