Also the drawing for the thumbnail had to be the biggest drawing for a project I have ever done, it took about a week and a half of constant work.

Unfortunately I don’t have any CAD pics, but it was then onto manufacturing, to reduce assembly time, I attempted to print the entire model all at once, nose down. Over the span of two months, the print failed three times, splitting it into a few pieces that were expoxied together.

With the new design, in Fusion 360, I added a Raspberry Pi with a screen powered by a battery module, servos for linear actuators that opened air vents for ventilation, two fans for air flow, a pop up camera, two LED strips in the vents for aesthetics, and two additional power modules.

After some sticker work with a Cricket and magnets, it was all done! But I didn’t like how bad my paint job was and I wanted to customize it, so I was off to modify the base in Fusion 360.

The new one was made on a new printer with heat resistant PETG filament and then filled with concrete outside of a college dorm at 2 AM. The concrete then expanded, breaking the mold, which I fixed with a 3d printing pen and sanding. After a ton of testing, I eventually made some good ones!

For the buck, I printed Zillion’s vacuum form buck in 3 pieces, epoxied them together, and the thing melted and collapsed in the vacuum former, ruining weeks of work. So I started on another…

I also thought I’d give an update on the Protogen Head with some background! It started off with Zillion Ross’ Head Base. I simply printed out the pieces, assembled them with chopsticks I’d carved into dowels, filled gaps with car dent filler, sanded, and messed up painting.

And that leads to today where I added magnets for the hair, eyes, and tongue, and each main section has been sewn onto the foam base and is in the process of being ladder stitched together! All that’s left is to shave down the fur, do the eye and nose trim, make the hair tuft, and make the tongue!

After all that, finally got to the fur part. Ordered all the test swatches, cut and partially shaved all the pieces, the began the month long sewing process. I’m pretty sure I made it too many pieces but still, I wouldn’t wish that process on my worst enemy.

Also if you ever make anything using this taping strategy, I highly suggest 3d scanning it. I used an iPhone app called PolyCam and I can’t express how often it saved me.

After that, I took a year long hiatus because I was too afraid to mess it up with the furring process😂. Eventually I got started and the taping section was started right after I 3d printed the eyes. It kinda looks like a wind map.

Up next was the mouth and inner head lining! It was a tad more wrinkly that I’d like, but it still wasn’t that bad! It was made with pink felt and a thin black moisture wicking fabric. It’s certainly a scary sight once it was glued in.
