Finally figured out why season 3 and 4 rin okumura don't look like him (I haven't watched in years). The artstyle shift in blue exorcist shouldn't be enough to make him look like a completely different character

It's because they cut his bangs. They gave him a haircut

Rin okumura's design in season 1/2. His hair reaches down to about the middle of his face. His sideburns cover the front of his ears, and the middle of his bangs go down to his nostrils. Rin Okumura's design in season 3/4. His hair stops about a quarter of the way down his face. The sideburns and the middle of his bangs are all about the same length as the rest of his hair... which is short.
